  • Woman sentenced after dog’s ears removed

    Hope Starkey, 28, of Abbotsford Road, Nuneaton, appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court today.

    She admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to a puppy known as Nylah by failing to address the animals’ pain and infection following an ear cropping procedure.

    She was sentenced to a 12 month community order which included 180 hours of unpaid work. She was ordered to pay costs of £1,000 towards the prosecution. She was disqualified from keeping all animals for 5 years.

  • Animal welfare investigators appeal for information following dog dumped outside animal sanctuary

    Animal Protection Services is appealing for information after a dog suspected to have been used in animal fighting was found abandoned outside of an animal sanctuary in Liverpool.

    The dog, thought to be a Patterdale Terrier-type, was found near an animal sanctuary on Spurriers Lane in Melling, Liverpool. A passer-by took the dog to a vet who assessed the injuries as so severe that the leg had to be amputated.

    The dog has been seized and taken into our care pending an investigation.

  • Lichfield illegal puppy trader given fine

    Scott Clayton, aged 22, of Spring Lane, Whittington, Lichfield, attended Cannock Magistrates’ Court today (27th July 2021) having been charged with offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2018.

    The proceedings were brought by Animal Protection Services, a registered charity that investigates and prosecutes organised animal cruelty. The prosecution follows intelligence-led investigations into the unlicensed sale of puppies in the Staffordshire area.

    The court heard how 11 adverts offering puppies and adult dogs for sale had been placed between March 2018 and December 2020. The prosecution said Mr Clayton stood to earn around £31,850 from his illegal puppy trading activities.  The defence disagreed and said that the profit made was £15,900.

  • Drayton Bassett illegal puppy trader given fine

    Richard Cooke, aged 39, of Drayton Lane, Drayton Bassett, attended Cannock Magistrates’ Court today (27th July 2021) having been charged with offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2018.

    The proceedings were brought by Animal Protection Services, a registered charity that investigates and prosecutes organised animal cruelty. The prosecution follows intelligence-led investigations into the unlicensed sale of puppies in the Staffordshire area.

    The court heard how two litters of Cocker Spaniel puppies were advertised over a four-month period. The prosecution said Mr Cooke stood to earn around £14,250 from his illegal puppy trading activities.

  • Worthing illegal puppy trader given fine and disqualified from dealing in animals

    Jason Cramb trading as XL Fully Loved Bullys, aged 31, of Littlehampton Road, Ferring appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Friday 2nd July 2021 facing offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2018.

    The court heard how Mr Cramb was running a business of selling XL American Bully puppies. Mr Cramb said that he had made a net profit of £12,000 from the breeding and sale of puppies.

    Joanne Marie Goddard, aged 33, of Cumberland Road, Stapenhill, Burton Upon Trent, appeared at Cannock Magistrates' Court today facing offences under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2018.

  • Telford illegal puppy dealer fined and disqualified from dealing in animals

    An illegal puppy dealer from Admaston has been fined and disqualified from dealing in animals for 12 months following an investigation into the unlicensed sale of puppies in the Telford area.

    Sophie Massey, aged 23, attended Telford Magistrates’ Court on Monday having been charged with offences under the Animal Welfare (Licensing of Activities Involving Animals) (England) Regulations 2018.

  • Leonard Greenough fined for selling puppies online without licence

    A Salisbury gardener who sold puppies online has been fined.

    Animal Protection Services, which brought a private prosecution against Leonard Greenough, said the “designer” dogs the 38-year-old sold on website Pets for Homes would have been worth around £16,700.

  • Illegal Kingswinford dog breeder fined

    A WOMAN from Kingswinford has been fined after pleading guilty to animal welfare offences.

    Stacey Skeet of Blaze Park was fined a total of £720 and disqualified from dealing dogs for three years.

    She was also ordered to pay a contribution of £500 towards investigation costs.

  • Kidderminster woman sentenced for illegal puppy breeding

    A WOMAN has been fined after an undercover investigation discovered she was selling puppies illegally from her Kidderminster home.

    Violet Smith, of Wilton Avenue, appeared at Dudley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, April 14, charged with offences under the Animal Welfare Regulations Act and the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations.
